During the days spent at the school, I supervised the process of planning, producing, and post-producing a video, a collaborative
effort between Spanish students and our Italian students.
I appreciated the technical shooting methods used by the mixed crew, the communication methods and the problem solving used. In particular, I was able to deepen my knowledge of sound production. The Spanish school’s audio recording studio is state-of-the-art, offering
capabilities for video dubbing, sound effects work, and post-production mixing. Conversely, at our school in Italy, we have
new cameras for filming and up-to-date editing software, but we lack a sound recording and mixing studio. Therefore, the Erasmus program was useful for me to deepen my skills in sound recording techniques and mix.
I also observed journalistic reporting interviews conducted at the school by students and teachers—an activity that deepened their
skills in journalistic reporting—whereas at our school, we focus more on fiction and TV series. We also visited the sets where Sergio Leone
filmed his Westerns, as well as the city’s cinema museum. As someone who teaches film history, I was able to gain deeper insight into
Sergio Leone’s creative process regarding the development of set design and costumes for his movies. Furthermore, I had an extensive
conversation about film history with the museum director—a truly productive and enriching exchange.
Given that our school is located in an outlying area facing significant socio-economic challenges, I am delighted that our
students can participate in Erasmus programs. Families often lack the financial means to send them traveling, let alone abroad, and a sense
of isolation and inadequacy frequently takes root in the students.
Through the Erasmus experience, however, I have seen firsthand how intercultural exchange allows young people to feel more integrated
into modern European and global society, enabling them to acquire not only linguistic skills but also interpersonal and daily-living
abilities outside their comfort zones.
