During the days spent in Malmo we did “job shadowing” in several Swedish schools where we entered the classes and talked to very kind teachers, pupils, DSGA and DS who explained their working method and how their digitalization problem solving. We were in a group with 15 Belgian and 5 Portuguese colleagues.
The course was minded to develop leadership skills to organize education for students in a digital school.
The Swedish digitalization process has been inspired by a 2010 Irish DSO program, is implemented by the government and managed by each individual municipality.
The EU takes up the digitalization plan and develops the DSOE which is financed by 11 partners including Italy.
Our experience was interesting from many points of view, including that of the logistical organization of the study rooms which are equipped with modular desks on wheels, IWB, a break area. There it is also possible to use the walls to highlight important concepts shared during the lessons.
We were very impressed by the organization of the lessons according to a pre-established scheme which, through digital content, allows students to produce (learning by doing) a paper at the end of each lesson which constitutes an important feedback for the teacher.
Furthermore we understood that innovative digital teaching is not the only solution to make lessons up-to-date, captivating and interesting: we should alternate different methods and always keep the learner at the center of his growth and learning project.
Among other activities carried out, we worked on Selfie, a platform that we recommend to colleagues: https://education.ec.europa.eu/it/selfie
Selfie is a free and customizable internet tool that helps schools evaluate their situation in relation to learning in the digital age through the anonymous opinions of students, teachers and managers.
We tank our Principal and the International Projects Commission for this wonderful opportunity thy gave us.
We would like to underline that the Italian Government, during the COVID emergency and now with the PNRR funds, has provided and will provide schools with adequate (and better) technologies and equipment of other countries (Portugal and Belgium) but it is up to us to use them better.
